I wrote this Requiem to honour the memory of my father who died on December 4, 2013.
The first piece of the Requiem was composed for the funeral ceremony because my father had wished that would be played one of the pieces of the Requiem that he himself had composed for a friend. However, the musicians required for this piece – organ, trumpet and solo bass voice – were not available. So I decided to write the music on the same lyrics with the musicians available, namely my brother on violin, my sister as soprano soloist and myself on piano. This piece is the 7th of the Requiem… and it quickly became obvious to me that I had to compose the rest of it. So I started to write on the same structure and lyrics as the Requiem composed by my father, adding an Agnus Dei and a Sanctus (in swing!) and later an Interlude for organ since my father was organist.
